About
BurnChat is a disposable chat room service where messages exist only in server RAM. No database. No log files. No user accounts. No analytics. Nothing is ever written to disk.Every major chat platform stores your messages permanently — even the ones you "delete." Slack keeps compliance exports your employer can download anytime. Microsoft Teams stores copies in a hidden Exchange folder called SubstrateHolds, including deleted and edited messages. Discord files persist on their CDN after account deletion. The delete button on these platforms doesn't delete anything. It hides messages from your view while keeping them in a database forever.BurnChat takes the opposite approach. Instead of encrypting stored data, we eliminated storage entirely. Messages live in a JavaScript Map object in server memory. When someone hits the burn button, the server sends a destroy signal to all connected users, severs every socket connection, cancels all background timers, zeros the message array, clears the user map, deletes the room from the registry, and lets the garbage collector reclaim the memory. All of that happens in under 10 milliseconds. There is no recycle bin for RAM.The entire backend is a single server.js file running Node.js, Express, and Socket.IO. There are zero storage dependencies because there is nothing to store. We had to actively disable web server access logs, error logs, system journal output, all analytics, cookies, and tracking pixels. The result is that we genuinely don't know how many people use BurnChat. There is nothing to look up.How it works: visit burnchat.io, click "Create a room," pick a nickname, and you're chatting. No sign-up. No email. No phone number. Share the room link with whoever you want to talk to. When you're done, hit burn and the room is destroyed instantly. You can also set room passwords, share images (compressed in browser, stored in RAM only), use custom room URLs, and enable auto-burn so the room self-destructs automatically when the last person leaves. If someone served us a court order asking for your chat history, we would have nothing to hand over. Not because of a policy — because the architecture makes it physically impossible to retain data. We can't read your messages, not because we promise not to, but because no mechanism exists for doing so.BurnChat is free, works in any browser, and requires no installation. The most secure data is data that doesn't exist.
