Quote worksheet for machine shops: imported metal cost vs. US shop work

cost-analysis estimating imported metal machine shop quoting

About

ContentQuote is a quoting worksheet for machine-shop estimators. When a buyer asks how much of a part's price is imported metal and how much is US shop work, it gives a line-by-line answer.

A part can have up to six metal lines (steel, aluminum or copper), each with its own mass, price per kilogram and duty rate. Duty is calculated on each line separately and never averaged across lines. The importer setting decides what the buyer is charged: duty goes into the quote when the shop imports, is shown but left out when the customer imports, and stays in with a warning when the importer isn't known yet.

All money math is done in whole cents, and the order total is the per-unit quote times quantity with no second rounding. Each ticket prints on one US Letter page with the per-unit breakdown, order total, broker questions and a mill-cert checklist. The app also writes a reply you can paste to the buyer.

It runs entirely in the browser. There are no accounts, no backend and no analytics. Quotes stay in the browser's local storage and move between computers by JSON export and import.

ContentQuote doesn't classify goods, suggest HTS codes or decide whether a tariff applies. The estimator enters every rate, and every screen and printed sheet says so.
