LinGoat is based on this 2024 study showing how to increase vocabulary retention by 4x compared to spaced repetition (SRS). https://aclanthology.org/2024.bea-1.29/Every exercise is a completely new sentence generated to contain multiple words that the SRS marked as due. These are the high extremely value words.The user translates the sentence and we grade each words and grammar concept in the sentence individually and feed them all back into the SRS.This results in a much better retention for the learner for three main reasons:- They see many more words in the same amount of time- They see the words in context- It feels less tedious for the user to create full sentences than singular wordsThat is without mentioning that the learner can now combine the efficiency of spaced repetition while also practicing real sentence construction.
